Altai Mountains, far western Mongolia

David's expedition to the far west of Mongolia with the team & fixers behind BBC's Human Planet has been published many times, and earned him World Travel Photographer of the Year finalist. It was also published globally as a trilogy by Lonely Planet and was featured by The Royal Geographical Association in publications and speaking engagements.

The expedition using a full crew including Russian 4x4 vehicles was self contained with translators, satellite phones and generators and lasted a number of weeks to reach the most remote areas of Western Mongolia on the Chinese border where they met nomadic tribes that had not seen westerners before. David lived alongside & photographed these nomadic people.
